When you are “stuck” in situations that you don’t want to be in, it can be really helpful to remember that you always have a choice. It’s a bummer to get present and find yourself in a situation that you definitely didn’t sign up for nor want to be apart of. To say the least, this can be really frustrating and uncomfortable.
Sometimes making a choice requires us to have to speak up and ruffle some feathers. Speaking up, especially for those of us that hate to rock the boat, can be so uncomfortable for us that we end up staying stagnant and without a choice.
I get it, there are going to be some situations where you decide that it’s no big thing and you roll with someone’s plan. Cool. Be easy breezy sometimes, good for you. What you want to be aware of is making it a habit to get lost in others choices constantly. Living in these waters will suck the life out of you because while you continually do what other’s want, consequently, you don’t honor your wants, needs and interests. If you’re always in the passenger seat, what is happening to your essence and drive for life?
Staying clear on what you’re interested in and what makes you feel alive is the whole point of living a happy existence. Honoring what you want to do, for the most part, is a way for you to respect and honor yourself. If you’re not listening to your own self and standing up for what feeds you, don’t expect anyone else too. It’s actually this ironic concept that when you start affirming yourself more and honoring yourself, then others naturally do too. Why is this? Well, think about being around someone who is clear and goes for what they want. Usually, it’s fun to be around them. They have ideas. They make things happen. They have excitement and drive. We like people that have opinions and execute them in a positive, interactive and fun way.
Instead of fearing that you want something different then those around you, love that you have an opinion. Love that you have a want that is different and yours. That is awesome and what makes you an individual rather than one of the herd. You are a unique being, so having a different perspective and take on what you want is 100% natural. When you embrace this quality and honor your wants, then doing something that is not necessarily your most favorite thing becomes better because you are choosing to do it.
Whether you enjoy what you’re doing or not, you always have a choice. You can choose to be miserable. You can choose to make the best of a situation. That is always up to you no matter what. Honor your voice.
