I know when I find myself overwhelmed it’s usually due to the fact that I’m looking way too far down the road of my life. I’m looking into the future and predicting what could be and when I pair that with a negative and fearful outlook, I freak myself out.
In all due respect to myself, I understand that I’m trying to make sure “everything is going to be okay” by looking into the future and playing physic. Although the irony is that it’s not for me to try and control. This is such a huge battle that I see with not only myself, but with my clients and people around me as well. It’s so scary to “let go” and give “it,” our worries, fears and control to something bigger than us. Very often, that’s exactly what we need to learn how to do: give it up to our buddies up there that have a more graceful way of unfolding our adventure.
Today is a short and simple reminder to take things one step and one day at a time. It’s too overwhelming to go five years down the road and stress about things that may or may not happen. Many symptoms of stress, anxiety and worry are stemming from what your imaging to be a future problem, not what factually is a current issue. Let go of that worry and be and feel lighter.
Take a moment to reflect on your worries and ask yourself if your fears are currently true or just fearful predictions of what could be. When you can get a grasp on reality and live in the current moment of your life instead of living in the bad dream of where you’re scared to end up, then, ironically your painting a much brighter future for yourself.
The habit of stressing about the future also takes you away from the present moment. Gently guiding yourself back into the NOW when you notice that your tripping about the what if’s of the future is a good practice to help keep you calm and present in the now of your life.
Be present. Give your worry to something bigger. Let go. Be Light.
