The concept of change can be super overwhelming when we assume that in order to feel different, change needs to be drastic and big. This is not always the case. It’s also a way of thinking about change that can lead toward feeling a lot of pressure and anxiety. Change doesn’t just come with one huge and intense decision. In all reality, big change can happen over a short period of time with little changes made day by day.
All you need is a feather of change on the daily to begin to mix up the way your life looks. I love this way of describing change because it keeps the topic manageable, lite and non intimidating. Remember this when you catch yourself feeling overwhelmed by believing that you need to make drastic actions in order for your life to be different. Not true.
I’ve noticed that when I’m craving a big change and feeling overwhelmed about where to start, committing to doing small things everyday that are different than my norm, help me to feel relief and see different results in my life.
Here are some tips to follow in order to see more change in your life:
Make Different Choices
Do something different just to do something different. Pick vanilla instead of chocolate. Go a different route home. Make something different for dinner. Say “yes” instead of saying “no.” I cannot begin to tell you the amount of possibilities that one “change” can do for your life.
Bottom line: Just do something different. Switch it up.
Get your flow in the mode of making different choices. I know it seems small, but start somewhere with making different choices even if it’s tiny little tweaks that don’t feel like they’re doing much. They are and they will if you stick with it. It’s more about you exercising your mind to think differently and inch away from your normal.
Take the Pressure Off
Stop believing that it all falls on you. It really doesn’t. Yes, you have control, to some degree about the choices and decisions you make in your life. Although there are other components at play, the bigger picture and the bigger pieces of the puzzle of life that will be presented to you and, perhaps, change the way you think and feel about situations. Be open to the fact that it’s not ALL in your control. There are other factors that are working for you, not against you.
Play with Life
Make this fun. Playing around with making different choices will give you different results. Instead of being terrified by what you don’t know, maybe you can challenge yourself to believe that “change is exciting.” It’s all in your perspective. Change can be an amazing, beautiful thing if you believe it to be.
Believe That There is Another Path
There’s rarely just one road toward how to accomplish something. This is true for the way that you go about and “do” your life. When you open up and become curious about other ways of doing things, different people and experiences will present themselves. Your way might be working, but there is often another way that could work better. Try it.
Just a little tweak can make a huge difference. Start with small changes and enjoy new little moments and situations evolving in your life. Everything that is large, usually starts small, this concept is no different. Trust that.
