For all of you who struggle with anxiety, worry and doubt; This one’s for you.
To preface this post, let me first make it clear that our minds are brilliant and necessary. As fear is too. Fears intention is to keep us safe and in situations when we need it, it does. However this blog is speaking to the situations where our minds and fears keep us from what we want, actually doing the opposite of it's natural purpose. We tend to operate from either fear (mind) or love (heart). Our life, how it unfolds, who and what shows up is a result of the place within that we’re leading from. This post is to help you understand and identify where the source of your choices and actions are coming from. In order for you to lead from your heart when there is nothing to fear.
Fear commonly shows up in the form of worry and doubt. When your chronically living your life from your head space (your mind) there's a slew of emotions that you will experience. There’s a time and place to honor our logical mind, although, a habit of leading from our minds can create a web of over analyzing, worry and straight up looping. Looping, meaning when your thoughts just go around and around, with no conclusion or answer. Just like a hamster spinning on a wheel in a cage, it’s getting nowhere. The same is true for us when we get caught in our minds. We falsely believe that if we think hard enough, we'll figure “it” out. Oh, how I know this feeling. The kicker is: It’s just not true to believe that we can think life, and the situations it presents us, out. When our thinking is cycling around and around we’re just swirling down into low vibe territory. Like, period and fast.
I see so many of us, me included, struggle with getting caught in our heads. You will know when you’re leading with your mind when you find yourself over thinking, worried, self critical, stressed about the future, anxious, tired and tight bodied. Our negative stories are birthed in our minds. Our assumptions are also born in our minds. Two things that lead to a lot of miscommunication and confusion. The major bummer is when we believe what our distorted mind is telling us and proceed to make decisions and assumptions about our life based on these skewed thoughts and stories.
Question: Have you ever had a situation where you really thought something to be true, and as time and life unfolded, you discovered that you “saw it all wrong?”
I know that I’ve experienced this and it’s been sort of "out of body" to witness how convinced I've been of a false reality because my mind was conjuring up creative, yet untrue stories about what was happening. Unless your taking a math test or putting a piece of IKEA furniture together, you will get nowhere trying to “think out” life. The truth is, there are many life situations that you can’t think out. I know this makes so many people uncomfortable and frustrated because planning and knowing makes us feel safe. The reality is, no matter how much you plan or think, circumstances can and often do change.
Operating from another space in the body that will allow more flexibility, create more flow and bring more truth and balance is found when navigating from the heart………….
So, what am I talking about when I say " leading from the heart," right? What does that even mean?
Here's what I'm saying: Leading with your heart is leading from your truth, which is rooted in love. Your heart tells you the truth and speaks the truth. It speaks calmly. It whispers gently, which is why operating from your mind will overpower and, often, mute the heart’s soft messages. Let me clarify that leading from your heart doesn’t mean becoming a pushover or chronically saying “Yes.” It doesn’t mean putting blinders on and ignoring what's happening, while stating that "love" will take care of the situation without your attention. It means leading from a place where you’re able to listen and go toward what’s right for you. This might mean walking away from someone or walking toward something because it’s what you feel called to do. It's your inner knowing, your gut, your intuition. It's the space that you can become more connected with from quiet and peaceful time with your own self & thoughts. Our hearts don't play games. Are heart space is pure, filled with good intention and raw & unfiltered truth. When we’re navigating from our heart we see things as they are, which can help us have a balanced perspective and make clear decisions.
If you don’t feel good, that’s a signal that your operating more from your mind than your heart.
Quick run down:
The mind is where doubt and worry live, which is rooted in fear. The heart is where truth lives, which is rooted in love.
Keep this simple. Similar to a medical condition there’s always a “root” cause to why our bodies are physically showing symptoms. We can either put a bandaid on the problem or we can start the adventure toward discovering what the "root" cause of the symptoms are. When you go to the root or ground level of anything you can begin to shift major systems and structures, which will result in big change.
Unless fear is trying to wake you up and get you out of danger.............. (ex: you're running from a tiger) .................Lead with your heart friends. I’m with you on this challenge.
* Here is day 1 of a 10 day meditation by Michelle Zarrin that's objective is to tap you back into your heart space. I’ve found it helpful. If you don’t have the meditation application insight timer, I would highly recommend downloading it. It’s free!
